about

The Von Duesz are a fresh trio from Germany
which performs live music for the club!
What they play is electronic music with keys,
saxophone, drums, effects and percussion –
without loops or computers! The musicians enter
the stage without a setlist, diving into the
blankness, filling it. There are no songs carved in
stone. No room for intellectualism or pre-defined
structures.
Instead: a naked, intuitive and immersed search for
the hypnotic DJ-set without records, a search for
the flow, cut loose from everyday reality.
When the German Tied & Tickled Trio familiarize
indie-fans with improvised Jazz-elements, or when
the Brandt, Brauer, Frick Ensemble serve club
crowds with organic danceability;
when Bonobo arrange an electronic-appearing
sound by means of acoustic instruments, or when
The Whitest Boy Alive actually work with
synthesizers, but still create their electro-affected
groove using oldschool Fender Rhodes an real
drums;
when last but not least a “Krautrock”-band like
Neu! and an electronic artist like Pantha Du
Prince have in common, that their music induces a
likewise free and deep airiness and trance, even
though they largely differ in their technical
approach...
...Then all of this put together accurately specifies
the musical realm, in which The Von Duesz let
their electro-organic sound come alive since late
2009.
This group plays their music, in the truest sense of
the word.. An that's their thing: Transforming the
moment into music, If The Von Duesz were a verb,
they would conspire with 'to sweat', 'dance' and
'dream', positively displacing the Now.
The audience, the instant and The Von Duesz share
the first place as winners of the battle between
moment and time. The three of them go bananas.
You will find them illuminated by colourful lights,
bouncing to their own sound. Because today, the
basis of a good dance-floor should still consist of
foot, heart and ears!
This way, sounds get palpable, and the audience
becomes more than just observing listeners. There
is a unique closeness to the band and this music
full of freedom that is played. You don't go to a gig
by The Von Duesz in order to listen to well-known
songs; what you look for is the celebration of
feeling and energy, the call to move yourself, turn
around and bounce and spin far away from your
own axis. And every emotion and expression
immediately influences the realm of sonic that
evolves.
This highly improvised approach is The Von
Duesz' very own advantage. Their live-concept is
just as fresh and sane as the electro-acoustic sound
as such. It's a joyfully improvised music of moving
lines and patterns: one comes, another one stays,
and the third one reappears in disguise – like that
good beat from a minute ago!
And no matter how deeply immersed The Von
Duesz are, in the end they maintain control over
everything that happens – every explosion and
every return to base, every stop and every halt.
The seduction of eternally vibrating club music is
huge, but even bigger is the urge to break with its
inmost techniques:
Analogue synthesizers instead of computer
technology! Live-performed improvisation instead
of pre-produced samples and loops!
Realtime-composition instead of endless studio
work!
Because today, the basis of a good dance-floor
should still consist of beats, bass and melody!
